Who is Donny Osmond?
Donny Osmond is an American singer, actor, and dancer. In the 1960s and 1970s, he and four of his elder brothers formed a musical group known as The Osmonds. The group is said to have sold over 100 million albums. In the late 1970s, Donny Osmond teamed up with his sister Marie Osmond for a musical variety show known as the Donny & Marie show. In 1998 the two would team up again to host a talk show also called Donnie & Marie.
In 1992 he made his stage debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. After over 2,000 performances onstage, Donny was chosen by Webber to appear in the film version of the show.

Middle Duffryn Colliery Disaster
The Middle Duffryn Colliery was a coal mine located in Aberdare, Glamorganshire, Wales. In May 1852, an explosion within the mine killed close to 60 miners. Nine were said to have survived the explosion only to be killed when a wooden platform on which they were trying to escape collapsed sending the men to their deaths at the bottom of the pit. One of the miners killed that day was David Jenkins, 3rd great-grandfather of Donny Osmond.
Hero of Tippecanoe
Major General Joseph Bartholomew was the 4th great-grandfather of Donny Osmond. He was a general in the Indiana Militia and served in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and the Black Hawk War.
In 1811 he took part in the famous Battle of Tippecanoe near present day Lafayette, Indiana. The battle was between the Indiana Militia under the command of Governor William Henry Harrison, and Native American warriors under the command of the Shawnee leader Tecumseh. With a rank of Colonel at the time, Joseph Bartholomew was wounded early in the battle when he took a rifle ball in the arm breaking both bones.
Although wounded, Col. Joseph Bartholomew remained with his command and continued to direct and encourage the troops until the close of the battle. As a reward for his services in this battle, he was promoted to the rank of Major General. The county of Bartholomew in Indiana would be named after him.
