Who was Henry Lee III?
Henry Lee III, also known as "Light-Horse Harry," was an American Revolutionary War hero and politician. Born on January 29, 1756, in Virginia, Lee was a cavalry officer in the Continental Army and was known for his lightning-fast raids and his ability to elude the enemy. He gained the nickname "Light-Horse Harry" for his skill as a horseman and his ability to lead swift, surprise attacks against British troops. After the war, Lee became a prominent political figure and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served from 1799 to 1801. He was also a governor of Virginia and was a strong supporter of President George Washington. Lee was an outspoken critic of the Alien and Sedition Acts and was a leading voice in the movement for states' rights. He died on March 25, 1818, at the age of 62. Lee is remembered as a hero of the American Revolution and a champion of individual liberty and states' rights.
