Charles Curtis was the 31st Vice President of the United States. His great-grandmother was Wy-he-see, daughter of White Plume, Chief of the Kaws, and granddaughter of White Hair, Chief of the Osages. This made Charles Curtis the first person to reach the two highest offices of the U. S. executive branch who had significant Native American ancestry. He spent part of his childhood being raised by his grandparents on the Kaw Reservation.
