- Notes:
Claims that James Stevens was born in Vermont and is the son of Benjamin and Lydia (Fields) Stevens appear to be false. It is almost certain that James Stevens and his wife Nancy Miles were natives of Kentucky. In the past, this parentage appears to have been accepted by both the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) based on a Stevens and Tripp genealogy published by Mary Stevens Ghastin in 1906. This genealogy should not be relied upon as it contains many errors easily disproved using primary records.
